DEVELOPMENT OF HIGHER ORGANISMS DEPENDS ON CERTAIN FACTORS EXTRAORDINARILY CONSERVED THROUGHOUT EVOLUTION, AMONG THEM, WE ARE INTERESTED ON THE SPALT LIKE (SALL) FAMILY OF ZINC FINGER TRANSCRIPTION REGULATORS THAT ARE KEY MEDIATORS OF VARIOUS SIGNALLING PATHWAYS, SALL PROTEINS ARE NECESSARY IN NUMEROUS BIOLOGICAL PROCESSES AND, WHEN THEIR PROPER FUNCTIONS ARE COMPROMISED, THEY ARE IMPLICATED IN INHERITED HUMAN SYNDROMES AND CARCINOGENESIS, DURING THE LAST YEARS, THE ROLE OF SALL PROTEINS HAS BEEN EXTENSIVELY STUDIED IN DROSOPHILA AND VERTEBRATES, HOWEVER, OUR KNOWLEDGE ON HOW SALL PROTEINS EXERT THEIR FUNCTION IS STILL LIMITED, WE PROPOSE TO STUDY THE MECHANISM OF ACTION OF SALL PROTEINS IN DROSOPHILA VIA THE ANALYSIS OF THEIR TRANSCRIPTIONAL REPRESSION CAPACITY AND THE RELATION OF THIS ACTIVITY WITH THEIR SUBNUCLEAR LOCALISATION AND CHROMATIN BINDING CAPABILITY, WE ALSO PROPOSE TO EXPLORE THE EFFECT THAT THE POST-TRANSLATIONAL MODIFICATION OF SALL BY SUMOYLATION HAS ON THESE PROCESSES, BASED ON OUR UNPUBLISHED DATA, WE PROPOSE TO STUDY THE ROLE OF SALL PROTEINS ON HORMONAL REGULATION AND METAMORPHOSIS AND WE THINK THAT TO STUDY THE ROLE OF SUMOYLATION ON CELLULAR CHOLESTEROL UPTAKE WILL PROVIDE INSIGHTS ON LIPID HOMEOSTASIS, WE ALSO PROPOSE TO IDENTIFY FACTORS THAT INTERACT WITH SALL PROTEINS AND TO STUDY THE SIGNIFICANCE IN VIVO OF THESE INTERACTIONS, WE BELIEVE THAT THE STUDY OF SALL TRANSCRIPTION FACTORS IN DROSOPHILA WILL PROVIDE A WORKING FRAME TO INVESTIGATE GENERAL ASPECTS CONCERNING GENE EXPRESSION REGULATION AND WILL ALSO HELP US TO UNDERSTAND THE ROLE OF THIS PROTEIN FAMILY IN VERTEBRATES, Biología del Desarrollo\Regulación de la expression génica\Spalt\Sumo\Drosophila
