THE SUBPROJECT FROM UNIVERSIDAD PUBLICA DE NAVARRA (UPNA) IS DEVOTED TO DEVELOPMENT OF THE HARDWARE OF TWO DIFFERENT SENSING SYSTEMS FOR TRAFFIC CONTROL AND ROADS STATE MONITORING . FIRST ONE, WILL BE A LOW-COST TRAFFIC SENSOR, WHICH WAS SUCCESSFULLY DEMONSTRATED IN LABORATORY. TAKING THE ADVANCE OF THIS PROJECT, WE WANT TO ACCELERATE THE TRANSFERENCE OF THIS RESEARCH TO A PRE-COMMERCIAL PRODUCT (TRL7, EVEN 8) THAT PROMOTES THE CREATION OF A SPIN-OFF COMPANY FROM UPNA TEAM. SECOND ONE WILL BE A DISTRIBUTED SENSING SYSTEM FOR ROADS MAINTENANCE.STARTING FROM SENSAS RESULTS, IT WILL BE NECESSARY TO OPTIMIZE THE OPTICAL FIBER TRANSDUCER AND DEVELOP NEW INTERROGATOR PROTOTYPES WITH THE OBJECTIVE OF BEING INSTALLED IN FIELD. THIS WILL ENABLE THE CREATION OF A SENSOR NETWORK IN THE CITY OF PAMPLONA BY USING THE ALREADY INSTALLED SENSORS WITH NEW ONES. AS IT IS WELL KNOWN, NEW SMART CITIES APPLICATIONS NEED FROM A HIGH QUANTITY OF INFORMATION. THUS, OUR OBJECTIVE IS TO CREATE A PROOF-OF-CONCEPT SENSOR NETWORK WITH AT LEAST 10 LOCATIONS TO DEMONSTRATE THE OPERATION OF POINT AND DISTRIBUTED SENSORS IN THE NETWORK AND TO DEVELOP A DATA MANAGEMENT SYSTEM. THESE LOCATIONS WILL BE DECIDED TOGETHER WITH PAMPLONA¿S CITY HALL TO, BESIDES, WORK ON DATA PROCESSING ALGORITHMS THAT WILL FACILITATE ADVANCED TRAFFIC CONTROL SYSTEMS.SO THE GENERAL AIM OF THE UPNA¿S SUBPROJECT IS TO LEAD THE 3 WORK PACKAGES OF THE WHOLE PROJECT: 1- DEVELOPMENT OF POINT LOW-COST AND SCALABLE TRAFFIC MONITORING SYSTEMS2- DEVELOPMENT OF A SENSING SYSTEM FOR ROAD CONDITION MONITORING USING DISTRIBUTED FIBER OPTIC VIBRATION SENSORS3- PREPARATION OF A NEW SPIN-OFF COMPANY: TECHNOLOGICAL AND BUSINESS CONCEPTS EVALUATIONTHE FIRST OBJECTIVE IMPLIES FOR UPNA THE DEVELOPMENT OF SEVERAL TASKS SUCH AS: THE OPTIMIZATION OF ELECTRONICS AND OPTICS OF THE SENSING SYSTEM (TRL5); FIELD TRIALS OF THE SENSING SYSTEM AND DATA MANAGEMENT IN MULTIPOINT MEASURING SYSTEMS, DEVELOPMENT OF THE FINAL OPTICAL AND ELECTRONIC SYSTEM TO BOOST THE SYSTEM FROM TRL5 TO TRL7; AND FINALLY A JOINT DEMONSTRATION OF POINT AND DISTRIBUTED SENSING SYSTEMS.THE SECOND OBJECTIVE WILL BE DEVOTED TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE DISTRIBUTED SENSING SYSTEM FOLLOWING THE NEXT TASKS: VALIDATION IN THE LABORATORY OF THE DEVELOPED DISTRIBUTED SENSING SYSTEMS SYSTEM (TRL4), VALIDATION IN RELEVANT ENVIRONMENT (TRL5), PREPARATION OF THE FIELD INTERROGATOR, DEMONSTRATION IN OPERATIONAL ENVIRONMENT OF THE DISTRIBUTED SENSING SYSTEM (TRL6/7).FINALLY, THE THIRD OBJECTIVE INTENDS TO PAVE THE WAY FOR THE CREATION OF A TECHNOLOGICAL BASE SPIN-OFF COMPANY FROM UPNA THAT WOULD TRANSFER RESEARCH RESULTS FROM FORMER PROJECT SENSA TO MARKET. IN ORDER TO ACHIEVE THIS GOAL, WE WILL CARRY OUT THE TECHNOLOGICAL AND BUSINESS VALUATION OF THE PROPOSED TECHNOLOGIES TO BE TRANSFERRED AND ALSO WE WILL START THE ACTIVITIES FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE TECHNOLOGY-BASED SPIN-OFF COMPANY.
