NEW DIGITAL PRODUCTION TECHNOLOGIES BASED ON SENSORS ARE AVAILABLE FOR PIG FARMS TO IMPROVE CONTROL AND QUALITY OVER THE PRODUCTION PROCESS. HOWEVER, FULL SENSORIZATION AT A TIME IS EXPENSIVE AND IT IS DIFFICULT TO DIGITALIZE AN EXISTING FARM. EVEN THOUGH, FARM DIGITALIZATION IS SHOWING A SLOW BUT STEADY INCREASING ADOPTION. THE USE OF FEEDING MACHINES OR COMPUTER VISION-BASED SOLUTIONS IN PIGS IS NOT AT HAND OF EVERYBODY AND EXISTING PRODUCTS IN THE MARKET EXHIBIT SHORTCOMINGS OF INTEGRATION WITH OTHER TOOLS, ISSUES ON DATA PROPERTY AND STANDARDIZATION. AS RESULT, AI-DRIVEN APPLICATIONS MUST BE DEVELOPED, ENABLING A SMARTER SENSOR TECHNOLOGY ADOPTION. SO, THE DIGITALIZATION PATHWAY OF LIVESTOCK IN GENERAL, AND PIG FARMS IN PARTICULAR, DESERVES MORE RESEARCH. THE LITERATURE REVIEW INDICATES THAT THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION GAPS REMAIN AT PRESENT AND DESERVE ATTENTION FROM NEW RESEARCH: A ROAD MAP GUIDE OF DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION IS NOT YET STUDIED NOR PROPOSED FOR THE PIG SECTOR. CONSIDERING DIFFERENT INTENSITIES OF DIGITALIZATION OR SENSORIZATION AND AUTOMATION OFFERS DIFFERENT LEVELS OF INVESTMENT AND REWARDS. ALTHOUGH GENERAL RULES EXIST, THEY ARE PERCEIVED OF POOR PRACTICAL VALUE AS THEY WOULD HAVE TO BE ADAPTED TO INDIVIDUAL SPECIFICITIES FOR APPEALING ADOPTERS. DATA INTEGRATION TO CREATE VALUE FOR FARMERS. SO FAR, THE INTEGRATION OF DATA AND MODELS, THE PROCUREMENT OF USEFUL INFORMATION IN EXISTING OR NEW MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS IS AN ACTUAL CHALLENGE. NEW DATA TECHNOLOGY BASED ON A PIG DATA SPACE CAN HELP THE SECTOR TO SHARE DATA AND GENERATE MORE USEFUL INFORMATION (I.E. VALUE). MORE INFORMATION EXTRACTED FROM DATA MUST MITIGATE THE PROBLEM OF UNCERTAINTY TIED TO BIOLOGICAL BEHAVIOR AND MARKET PRICES. SUSTAINABILITY OF THE PIG SECTOR RELIES ON BIOECONOMIC MODELS BASED ON CONFIDENT MATHEMATICAL DECISION MODELS. VALUABLE INFORMATION GOES BEYOND SIMPLY DATA REPORTS. AI-DRIVEN APPLICATIONS CAN INTEGRATE EXISTING MODELS AND BENEFIT OF A STANDARDIZATION OF DATA FORMATS SAVING TIME AND EFFORTS TO ANALYZE SYSTEM BEHAVIOR. (E.G. PREVIOUS STUDIES DEMONSTRATED EFFECTS OF FEEDING FORMULATION AND SHIPPING ON ENVIRONMENTAL AND ECONOMIC PERFORMANCES OF PIG-FATTENING FARMS (LAMNATOU ET AL., 2022). HOWEVER, THEY FAILED TO INCLUDE FEED FORMULATION WHILE OPTIMIZING FEEDING AND SHIPPING STRATEGIES IN PART DUE TO A LACK OF COORDINATION WITH FEED MILLS, FARMS, AND ABATTOIRS.) A COST-BENEFIT ANALYSIS OF DIGITALIZATION. SINCE MANY FARMERS ARE RISK-AVERSE AND PREFER TO LOSE SOME INCOME TO AVOID TAKING RISKS. IT IS IMPORTANT TO BUILD SOLID ARGUMENTS TO DEMONSTRATE THE BENEFITS OF DIGITALIZATION AND FLATTEN THE WAY FOR DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION. DIGITALIZATION MUST BE PLANNED ALSO WITH DIFFERENT INTENSITIES ACCORDING TO END-USER WISHES. A COST-BENEFIT ANALYSIS MAY OFFER AN ECONOMIC LIST OF PROS AND CONS. NOT LESS IMPORTANT IS THE CONSIDERATION OF THE BENEFITS OF DATA SHARING AT HORIZONTAL AND VERTICAL LEVEL IN THE PSC.THE GENERAL OBJECTIVE OF THIS PROJECT IS TO INVESTIGATE THE PROPOSAL OF A DATA SPACE FOR THE PIG SECTOR INTEGRATING DIFFERENT SOURCES OF DIGITAL DATA, COUPLED WITH ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE DRIVEN DECISION SUPPORT TOOL INTEGRATING DIFFERENT MODELS. THIS OBJECTIVE INCLUDES THE PROVISION OF TANGIBLE ARGUMENTS ENCOURAGING FOR A DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION OF THE PIG SECTOR GIVEN THE UNDERSTANDING OF PRESENT DECISION-MAKING STRATEGIES.
