Descripción del proyecto
EPILEPSY, THE FOURTH MOST COMMON NEUROLOGICAL DISORDER, IS A CHRONIC DISORDER AND CURRENT THERAPEUTIC STRATEGIES HAVE NOT PROVEN USEFUL IN AT LEAST ONE-THIRD OF THE AFFECTED INDIVIDUALS, EFFECTIVE TREATMENTS FOR EPILEPSY CONSTITUTE A CLEAR UNMET CLINICAL NEED, MOST OF THE AFFECTED PATIENTS OF TEMPORAL LOBE EPILEPSY (TLE), THE MOST FREQUENT FORM OF EPILEPSY, DEVELOP MESIAL SCLEROSIS (MS), THERE IS STRONG EVIDENCE FOR A SIGNIFICANT CONTRIBUTION OF MICROGLIA TO THE DEVELOPMENT AND PROGRESSION OF MOST PREVALENT NEURODEGENERATIVE DISEASES, WE PROPOSE AN INTEGRATED APPROACH THAT COMBINES SINGLE-CELL GENOMICS AND CELL POPULATION-BASED GENOMICS ANALYSIS WITH MOUSE GENETICS TO UNRAVEL MICROGLIA HETEROGENEITY AND THE MECHANISMS REGULATING MICROGLIA PLASTICITY, WE WILL INVESTIGATE MICROGLIA PLASTICITY IN MOUSE MODEL OF EPILEPSY AND IN PATIENTS AFFECTED BY TLE-MS, WE SEEK TO UNRAVEL THE ROLE OF MICROGLIA PLASTICITY IN THE DEVELOPMENT AND PROGRESSION OF MESIAL TEMPORAL LOBE EPILEPSY, A PREVALENT NEURODEGENERATIVE CONDITION THAT STILL FACES ENORMOUS UNMET CLINICAL NEEDS, UNDERSTANDING THE ROLE OF MICROGLIA PLASTICITY IN TLE-MS WILL HELP TO IDENTIFY NEW THERAPEUTIC APPROACHES TO IMPROVE THE MANAGEMENT OF PATIENTS AFFECTED BY TLE-MS AND OTHER NEUROLOGICAL DISORDERS, ENFERMEDADES NEURODEGENERATIVAS\EPILEPSIA\NEUROINFLAMACIÓN\MICROGLIA\PLASTICIDAD\GENOMICA
