WHETHER OR NOT STANDING GENETIC VARIATION IS INFLUENCE BY EPISTASIS REMAINS ONE OF THE MOST PERTINENT AND CONTAVERCIAL QUESTIONS IN MEDICAL AND EVOLUTIONARY POPULATION GENETICS, ALTHOUGH AT PRESENT THE INFLUENCE OF EPISTASIS OF LONG-TERM EVOLUTION IS GAINING WIDER APPRECIATION, EPISTASIS IN STANDING GENETIC VARIATION GENERALLY REMAINS AN ELUCIVE FORCE, JUST A FEW STUDIES REPORT SUBSTANTIAL EPISTASIS, HOWEVER, EXPERIMENTAL STUDIES THAT TAKE INTO ACCOUNT PRESUMED MOLECULAR MECHANISMS OF ACTION OF EPISTASIS ARE LACKING, HERE, WE PROPOSE A COMPUTATIONALLY-INFORMED EXPERIMENTAL SETUP TO TEST FOR THE PRESENSE OF EPISTASIS AMONG UP TO ONE HUNDRED PAIRS OF NONSYNONYMOUS SNPS FROM A NATURAL YEAST SPECIES, SACCHAROMYCES PARADOXUS, THE FIRST STAGE OF THE PROJECT WILL CONSIST OF EXTENSIVE STRUCTURE MODELING OF THE HYPOTHESIZED JOINT IMPACT OF PAIRS OF SEGREGATING POLYMORPHISMS IN S, PARADOXUS, PAIRS PREDICTED TO BE LIABLE FOR EPSITASTIC INTERACTION WILL BE TESTED IN VIVO IN A GROWTH COMPETITION EXPERIMENT ESTIMATING THE FITNESS IMPACT OF INDIVIDUAL POLYMORPHISMS AND VERSUS THEIR JOINT IMPACT, EXPERIMENTALLY ASSAYING EPISTASIS AMONG SEGREGATING SNPS FOR THE FIRST TIME, THESE RESULTS MAY PROVIDE A PROOF OF PRINCIPLE THAT EPISTASIS IMPOSED BY PROTEIN STRUCTURE INFLUENCES STANDING VARIATION IN NATURAL POPULATIONS, EPISTASIS\GENETICA\EVOLUCION
