Until recently, water was perceived as an abundant and freely available natural resource. However, given the current context of climate change, companies are realising that inadequate water management can increase their operational costs, and even affect their reputation and corporate image. Particularly in areas of water scarcity, tourism sector activities can have a major negative socio-environmental impacts. In view of this, given that water is a basic strategic resource for the hospitality industry, an efficient management system is needed to improve water management and minimise the tourism sector's water footprint. In the light of this situation, MAGNUM will design and deliver a next-generation software ecosystem for sustainable hotel operation through Artificial Intelligence and BIM-based data interoperability. Built around the concept of water footprint, MAGNUM will provide hotel operators with a highly operational platform and tool providing advanced monitoring and control on the key environmental impacts related to water footprint.Due to the capabilities and strong background in research, innovation and industrial development as well as the multidisciplinary approach of MAGNUM’s technical partners, (IDP, AQUATEC, CETAQUA), the proposed software ecosystem will address current and future needs regarding water consumption and footprint:Detailed monitorization of consumption patterns in each of the relevant areas for faster and more meaningful operationAnomaly detection and leakage detection through early alerts on deviations on consumption patterns.Added-value operational information through unified access to harmonized heterogeneous data.Dispatch recommended operational actions for specific and overall water footprint optimization goals.End-user application for engagement of hotel visitors with the concept of personal water footprintThree different MELIÁ hotels will be used as case studies to demonstrate the technological developments in an operational environment. Thanks to MELIÁ solid presence in the hospitality sector and its extensive hotel catalogue, the hotels have been selected in such a way that they can provide a wide range of different features (geographical area, customer profile, services, green areas), with the aim of ensuring universality and applicability to any type of hotel.Through the MAGNUM project, different positive impacts are expected. From environmental point of view, greater monitoring of direct and indirect water consumption will necessarily lead to a reduction of the water footprint in the medium term. This will be directly reflected in a significant reduction of economic costs related to water consumption. Furthermore, MAGNUM’s digital tool will provide a competitive advantage for those hotels that integrate it into their management approach, since as sustainability is a growing criteria for consumers in their purchasing and consumption choices. ver más
