Avelino Alvarez-Ordóñez

Dr Avelino Alvarez-Ordóñez is Lecturer in Food Science at University of León, Spain. He is Doctor in Veterinary Medicine and PhD from University of León, León, Spain. He is a food microbiologist with special interest in food safety, foodborne pathogens, bacterial physiology, bacterial stress responses, ecology and biocontrol of microbial biofilms, antimicrobial resistance, the food microbiome, and novel technologies of food preservation. Overall, he has published to date 90 articles in international peer reviewed journals, 6 book chapters, 2 books, and more than 30 scientific opinions. In 2014 he was awarded a Starting Investigators Research Grant by Science Foundation Ireland. Since 2018 he is member of the Panel on Biological Hazards (BIOHAZ) of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA, http://www.efsa.europa.eu/). He is member of the Editorial Board of Food Research International, Frontiers in Microbiology, Frontiers in Sustainable Food Systems, Journal of Food Protection, Genes and Current Research in Food Science.
