I am an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Physical Education and Sports, Universidade da Coruña, Spain. Since 2008, I have coordinated a branch of research in NEUROcom focused on motor control/learning and neurorehabilitation. I was a former predoctoral student in NEUROcom, and my postdoctoral work was performed in different laboratories, such as the FENNSI group in Hospital Nacional de Parapléjicos de Toledo; the Unitat d’EMG del Hospital Clinic de Barcelona; and the Laboratoire d'Imagerie Biomédicale, Universite Pierre et Marie Curie in Paris under the supervision of Dr. Antonio Oliviero, Dr. Josep Valls-Solé and Dr. Véronique Marchand-Pauvert, respectively.I participated in different research grants, and I have been a principal investigator in the project "Gait training combined with noninvasive brain stimulation to reduce fatigue and the risk of falls in the elderly" supported by Plan Nacional de I+D+i 2017 Ministerio de Economía y Empresa, Spain. My main interests are focused on the understanding of central expressions of fatigue produced by different types of movements and muscular contractions, with special interest in gait, both at the physiological and pathological levels, and cognitive-motor interactions. I am also interested in the mechanisms of motor learning and their putative applications in neurorehabilitation.I have obtained skills in biomechanics and neurophysiology, using techniques such as transcranial magnetic stimulation to evaluate cortico-cortical and cortico-spinal excitability or electric percutaneous stimulation to evaluate spinal excitability. In some cases, these techniques are combined with neuromodulation techniques and virtual reality.
