Asier Fernández-Iribar obtained a master’s degree in Control, Automation and Electronics Engineering by the University of the Basque Country (UPV-EHU) in 2007, where he was lecturer in Control theory for six months. At the end of 2007, he started working in the Health Division of Tecnalia where his main work there was focused on developing assistive technologies where he holds a patent. In 2011 he spent a six-month stay at Edinburgh's Heriot-Watt University carrying out a project on artificial vision. Since then, in Tecnalia he has participated in European and Spanish research projects, in tasks mainly related to programming and control. The most relevant R&D projects in which he has participated are FLORENCE (participation in adding autonomous navigation capabilities to a mobile platform), COCONTROL (participation in scheduling a collaborative control between the user and the control of an electrical wheelchair), STIFF-FLOP (participation in the programming of a simulator for a flexible surgical robot) and BROCA (participation in the programming of an industrial robot for a laparoscopic robotic surgery).
