Zabdiel Brito-Brito was born in Mexico City, Mexico, on April 12, 1976. He received a B.Sc. degree in Communications and Electronics Engineering and M.Sc. degree in Electronics Engineering from the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN), Mexico, in 2001 and 2003, respectively, and received the Ph.D. degree (Cum Laude) in Communications and Signal Theory at the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC), Barcelona, Spain, in 2010.He joined the Department of Communications and Electronics Engineering at National Polytechnic Institute (IPN), Mexico, as an assistant professor from August 2003 to August 2011. He joined the Department of Electronics, Systems, and Informatics at the ITESO- the Jesuit University of Guadalajara, Mexico, as an associate professor from August 2011 to May 2016 and as a full professor from May 2016 to March 2021. He was the academic program administrator of the following ITESO's graduate programs: Ph.D. program in Engineering Sciences from April 2019 to March 2021, Master's Degree in Electronics Design from February 2013 to April 2019, and Systems in Chip Design Specialization from August 2016 to April 2019. Dr. Brito-Brito was a member of the Research Group on Computer-Aided Engineering of Circuits and Systems (CAECAS) at ITESO from August 2011 to March 2021. He joined the Centre Tecnològic de Telecomunicacions de Catalunya (CTTC) in Castelldefels (Barcelona, Spain) at the Communications Technologies Division in the Physical-layer Implementation of High-Performance Communication Systems (PHYCOM) Department as a researcher from March 2021 to December 2021.He is currently a researcher (R2) at the Centre Tecnològic de Telecomunicacions de Catalunya (CTTC) in Castelldefels (Barcelona, Spain) with the Navigation and Positioning Research Unit (N&P) since January 2022. His main research concerns are designing and modeling, including optimization of circuits and sensors, to be applied for developing sensing technology using microwave circuits.Dr. Brito-Brito has experience with MicroElectroMechanical System (MEMS) design and fabrication, which can be used to develop sensing technology using microwave circuits. His previous work includes the design of transmission lines, antennas, and filters and he finds in particular very interesting the possibility of applying this knowledge to create sensing technology.During his doctoral thesis, Dr. Brito-Brito developed reconfigurable filters that can tune all filter parameters, namely center frequency, bandwidth, and selectivity, using both diodes and MEMS to reconfigure the designs. The filters were designed using the ADS electromagnetic simulator and HFSS, in addition, these filters were manufactured and then measured and validated and the results had very good agreement with the simulation. At the CAECAS research group, he continued with the design of high-speed circuits, systems, and high-speed interconnections. In this research group, Dr. Brito-Brito introduced himself in the use of optimization methods that allow designing the systems following the required specifications and in an automated way. Examples of optimization methods are Nelder Mead, space mapping, pattern search, and neural networks among others. He also has experience with the design and modeling of mechanical and thermal effects in devices, using COMSOL and Matlab. He has experience in multi-physics work, with simulations performed in COMSOL, this experience was acquired while working on a research project with Intel labs México. In which the optimization methods were applied to the multi-physics effect of a cell phone antenna that modifies its radiation pattern due to human head proximity. In order to perform the optimizations using the simulators, drivers were developed in Matlab for the remote control of ADS, HFSS, and COMSOL.He has participated in projects funded by: AGAUR–UPC, MEC–UPC, Intel Corp.–ITESO, COECYTJAL–ITESO. He is currently participating in the CTTC project "Ultra-low-cost microwave sensor tags for the IoT" since 2021.Dr. Brito-Brito serves as a reviewer for the IEEE Trans. on Microwave Theory and Techniques, IEEE Trans. on Antennas & Propagation, and IEEE Trans. on Computer-Aided Design of Integrated Circuits and Systems. He was the IEEE Guadalajara Section Secretary from 2019 to 2020. He was the IEEE MTT-S Guadalajara Chapter Chair from 2015 to 2018, as well as the Financial Chair of the First IEEE MTT-S Latin America Microwave Conference (LAMC-2016, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico). He is an IEEE Senior Member since 2020.He has published 12 journal papers and 42 conference papers, as well as 2 patents; with an H index of 6. Dr. Brito-Brito is also the co-author of the book chapter “Reconfigurable Microwave Filters” in the Book “Microwave and Millimeter-Wave Technologies from Photonic Bandgap Devices to Antenna and Applications” from In-Tech in March 2010. He has advised two graduated Ph.D. students and several graduated B.Sc. and M.Sc. student dissertations.
