THE PURSUED SCIENTIFIC GOALS ARE FOCALIZED TOWARDS THE PHYSICS AND CHEMISTRY OF INTERFACES INVOLVING SMALL MOLECULES WITHIN THE NANOSCALE PERSPECTIVE, THE EXPERIMENTAL TECHNIQUES FORESEEN TO UNDERTAKE SUCH A STUDY ARE PHOTOELECTRON SPECTROSCOPY USING SYNCHROTRON RADIATION AND CONVENTIONAL EXCITATION SOURCES BOTH IN IDEAL (ULTRAHIGH VACUUM) AND REAL (AMBIENT PRESSURE) CONDITIONS COMPLEMENTED WITH SCANNING PROBE MICROSCOPY AND SPECTROSCOPY IN DIFFERENT OPERATIONAL MODES,THE MOLECULES TO BE STUDIED ARE WATER AND SELECTED ORGANIC MOLECULES OF INTEREST, I,E, THOSE FORMING MOLECULAR ORGANIC MATERIALS, ALTHOUGH WATER HAS BEEN AND CONTINUES TO BE EXHAUSTIVELY STUDIED, MANY FUNDAMENTAL QUESTIONS REMAIN UNANSWERED BECOMING ACCEPTED THAT WATER IS STILL AN ENDURING MYSTERY, WE SHALL CONCENTRATE ON WATER INTERACTING WITH SURFACES, SEARCHING FOR THE FORMATION OF STRUCTURED WATER AT AMBIENT CONDITIONS (I,E,, ROOM TEMPERATURE ICE), ITS INTERACTIONS WITH SELECTED MINERALS AND AMINO ACIDS GAINING A DEEPER INSIGHT INTO THE WETTING/DEWETTING PHENOMENA AND SOLVATION, ON THE OTHER HAND WE WILL EXPLORE THE ELECTRONIC STRUCTURE OF INTERFACES FORMED BETWEEN PURELY ORGANIC AND ORGANOMETALLIC MOLECULES AND INORGANIC NANOSTRUCTURED SURFACES WITH THE OBJECTIVE TO UNDERSTAND, AMONG OTHER PHENOMENA, 2D DOPING (CHARGE TRANSFER), THE BASICS OF ELECTRONIC CONDUCTION IN MOLECULAR ORGANIC MATERIALS AND QUANTUM CONFINEMENT IN SUPRAMOLECULAR LAYERS,THE PROJECT WILL BE DEVELOPED IN THE RECENTLY CREATED MOLECULAR SYSTEMS RESEARCH GROUP AT THE CENTRO DE INVESTIGACION EN NANOCIENCIA Y NANOTECNOLOGIA (CIN2), A MIXED CENTER BETWEEN CSIC AND THE FUNDACIO PRIVADA INSTITUT CATALA DE NANOTECNOLOGIA (ICN), WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF THE SUBLINE OF RESEARCH SMALL MOLECULES ON SURFACES IN AMBIENT AND PRISTINE CONDITIONS OF THE CIN2 PLAN DE ACTUACION 2010-2013, ORGANIC MOLECULES\WATER\INTERFACES\PHOTOEMISSION\SYNCHROTRON RADIATION\SCANNING PROBE MICROSCOPY\WETTING\DEWETTING\CHARGE TRANSFER\QUANTUM CONFINEMENT
