Descripción del proyecto
SOLO intends to pave the way for the commercial operations of next generation airliners proposing Single Pilot Operations, which are anticipated within the next decade.
To this aim, SOLO encompasses one single Operational solution that will produce a TRL 4 ATM Concept of Single Pilot Operations. This will initiated based on previous works initiated by Airbus and ATR with the support of French partners (DSNA, EUROCONTROL, ENAC) and, as well, be based on the technological bricks developed during those previous R&T activities. In support to Airbus and ATR, the maturation and validation of this concept will be done with the formal cooperation of DFS, ENAIRE/CRIDA, EUROCONTROL, DSNA, NATS and INDRA. Indeed, one major constraint for the TRL 4 concept will be to reduce to the minimum necessary the impacts on ATC tools and procedures.
Airline functions and tools will need to be enhanced to prepare and execute Single Pilot Operations, in addition to the major evolutions needed at the cockpit side (not the purpose of SOLO). Several airlines had -on an anonymous way- supported Airbus and ATR for several years. It is planned that a similar way of working will be done during the execution of the project.
In the end, the TRL 4 Concept of Operations (instantiated by a comprehensive SPR/INTEROP/OSED) will feed further, more specific R&T activities and as well provide solid basis to various standardization and regulatory bodies such as ICAO, EASA, FAA, CAAC.
