Descripción del proyecto
Aviation traffic in Europe is projected to reach 14.4M flights in 2035 a 50% increase than in 2012. However, this has caused
a severe increase in aviation pollution creating a need to decrease emission from aviation industry. Aviation accounts for 3%
of the EU’s total greenhouse emission so to meet the 2016 European Commission milestones of 40% emission cuts by
2030 and 60% by 2040
electrification of aircraft is vital. Our concept for the future of regional air travel is the TailWind. It’s a fully electric plane, with
9 seats and a range of more than 600km in 90 minutes. Created from a clean sheet design and elegant engineering, the
TailWind uses innovations in storage, integration, thermal management and airframe design to achieve comfort and
convenience without the high cost, pollution and noise.
Our revolutionary back-end plane design eliminates the drag of the tail and incorporates thrust vectoring, boundary layer
ingestion, active flow control, and distributed electric propulsion – each enabled by our unique propulsion design. Our first
step towards the creation of this highly ambitious concept has been to develop the heart of our aircraft, a custom propulsion
system that is scalable to planes of various sizes and performance requirements. The system will optimise lightweight
battery packs and leverage our original powertrain. This architecture will form the basis of our future planes, and be
retrofitted for integration into existing turboprop airframes resulting into drastic reduction of operating costs and elimination of
negative environmental impact.
With our disrupting technology, Ampaire will enable current polluting planes to be retrofitted and reduce their environmental
impact. Our overarching mission, to create an affordable fully electric regional aircraft, will provide airlines the tool they need
to continue operations without affecting the environment.
