THIS PROJECT DEALS WITH THE INTEGRATION OF THREE IMPORTANT BRANCHES OF OPERATIONS RESEARCH AND APPLIED MATHEMATICS: MATHEMATICAL OPTIMIZATION, NETWORK DESIGN AND DATA SCIENCE, THE MAIN GOAL IS TO ENLARGE THE CATALOGUE OF AVAILABLE TECHNIQUES AND TOOLS OF MATHEMATICAL PROGRAMMING, MACHINE LEARNING, OPERATIONS RESEARCH AND STATISTICS, TO ADDRESS ESSENTIAL PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH THE MANAGEMENT AND DESIGN OF LARGE-SCALE COMPLEX NETWORKS AND DATA SCIENCE, THE SCIENTIFIC ANALYSIS OF PROBLEMS ARISING IN APPLIED SCIENCES, LIKE OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT, FINANCE AND SOCIOLOGY WILL LEAD US TO SELECT OR DEVELOP APPROPRIATE SOLUTION TECHNIQUES AND TOOLS, INCLUDING SPECIFIC ALGORITHMS TO SOLVE APPLIED RESEARCH PROBLEMS, THE SECOND GOAL OF THIS PROPOSAL IS TO MAKE A SIGNIFICANT ADVANCE ON THE MODELLING AND SOLUTION ASPECTS OF A WIDE RANGE OF PROBLEMS IN DATA SCIENCE AND MOVING AHEAD THE FRONTIERS OF THE INSTANCE SIZES AND LEVEL OF INTEGRATION CONSIDERED IN THE OPERATIONAL ANALYSIS OF LARGE-SCALE NETWORK, THESE TWO GOALS ARE INTERTWINED AND THEY HAVE TO BE ADDRESSED JOINTLY, INDEED, ANY ADVANCE IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF MATHEMATICAL PROGRAMMING TECHNIQUES AND TOOLS WILL HAVE A DIRECT CONSEQUENCE IN THE MODELLING AND SOLUTION OF NETWORK DESIGN AND DATA SCIENCE PROBLEMS, AND CONVERSELY, ANY ADVANCE DONE IN DATA SCIENCE MODELS MAY HAVE A DIRECT IMPLICATION ON THE METHODOLOGICAL ADVANCE OF MATHEMATICAL PROGRAMMING AND OVER THE OPERATIONAL ASPECTS OF MANY PROBLEMS OF NETWORK DESIGN, ANALOGOUSLY, THE ANALYSIS OF THE OPERATIONAL ASPECTS OF NETWORKS MODELS WILL SHED LIGHT ON NEW ASPECTS TO BE CONSIDERED WITHIN THE DATA SCIENCE PARADIGM,OUR GOALS ARE AMBITIOUS, ALTHOUGH FEASIBLE GIVEN THE EXPERIENCE OF OUR TEAMS, THEY TRY TO COVER A WIDE SPECTRUM OF CHALLENGES IN MATHEMATICAL PROGRAMMING IN GENERAL AND MORE SPECIFICALLY, CONNECTING NETWORK DESIGN AND DATA SCIENCE AREAS THAT CAN BE CONSIDERED NOWADAYS AMONG THOSE WITH MAJOR PROJECTION IN CURRENT OPERATIONS RESEARCH, THE FOCUS OF SUBPROJECT #1 RESTS ON SOME METHODOLOGICAL CONTRIBUTIONS OVER MATHEMATICAL OPTIMIZATION WITH APPLICATIONS TO NETWORK DESIGN PROBLEMS AND DATA SCIENCE, THUS, WE HAVE PREPARED A VERY AMBITIOUS PROPOSAL WITH 4 BLOCKS OF GOALS EACH ONE INCLUDING A NUMBER OF CHALLENGES, THAT ARE AFFORDABLE IN THIS FOUR YEARS PROPOSAL WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF SEVILLE RESEARCH COMPOSED BY 16 RESEARCHERS (8 IN THE RESEARCH TEAM AND 8 IN THE WORK TEAM) WITH A CONSOLIDATED TRAJECTORY OF COLLABORATION, COMPLEMENTARY SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND RESOURCES; AND HIGH LEVEL OF SCIENTIFIC RECOGNITION, THE OVERALL GOALS OF THE PROJECT CAN BE SUMMARIZED AS:G1, ADVANCES IN MATHEMATICAL PROGRAMMING TECHNIQUES: OPTIMIZATION MEETS DATA ANALYSIS AND NETWORK DESIGN, G,2 CHALLENGING LARGE SCALE NETWORK DESIGN PROBLEMS FROM OPTIMIZATIONG3 DATA SCIENCE WITH OPTIMIZATION LENS: ADVANCED MODELSG4 APPLICATIONSTHE ACHIEVEMENT OF THESE GOALS ABOVE MAY A DIRECT APPLICATION IN THE TECHNOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENT IN STRATEGIC AREAS OF THE INFORMATION SOCIETY WITH IMMEDIATE CONSEQUENCES ON DISTRIBUTION AND TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS AND ON THE IMPROVEMENTS OF THE METHODOLOGIES OF DATA SCIENCE, DATA SCIENCE\NETWORK DESIGN\OPTIMIZATION
