In the EU during the past decades life expectancy and the proportion of people aged ≥65 have increased; consequently, all countries have shifted their policies towards prolonging the working life. However, this has not been matched by measures supporting longer and healthier working lives. In 2013, the % of European workers who self-reported work-related health problems during the previous year amounted to 7.9%,equal to a total of ~19.6 million people and nearly 2 every 3 people having issues and being absent from work for at least 4 days therefore. Besides the obvious negative effects on the persons’ wellbeing, sick leave also has an economic impact: the annual costs for employers are estimated at €47 billion on average and the national cost is about 2.5% of GDP. Among those with work-related health problems, 60% had musculo-skeletal disorders, with the highest rate (11%) observed in people aged 55-64. Present methods to determine which movements and postures are dangerous for the workers’ health are incomplete and imprecise, so it’s difficult to improve the working conditions to protect and preserve workers’ health. This is particularly true for operators working in assembly lines in the industry sector, where there are uncomfortable positions and repetitive tasks. AIO created Numii to let employers understand precisely which movements can be dangerous for each worker’s health, in order to improve their working conditions and preserve their wellbeing. Thanks to one acquisition sensor and processing module based on AI and a tablet, the product collects and monitors in real-time the operator’s biomechanical movements in daily working conditions. With these data it’s possible to identify dangerous or risky movements and postures that would lead to a health issue if not treated appropriately. AIO will also collect a large amount of data about the human body at work, which will allow policy makers to develop new strategies to support a longer & healthier working life. ver más
