Descripción del proyecto
Drawing on the expertise from the applicants’ publications, wider academic research and recent contact with Lipotec, a global leader in Skin and Sun Care, this MSCA-IF-EF-SE application proposes to develop a novel sunscreen product which will deliver effective, safe and inexpensive broad-spectrum photoprotection. This project is aimed particularly at providing the global sunscreen industry with an alternative ultraviolet-A (UVA) filter: the UVA filter currently leading the market, avobenzone, quickly degrades upon absorption of UV radiation thus posing a significant risk to human health. The few currently available alternatives to avobenzone are too costly, resulting in unaffordable photoprotective products to consumers, which may have implications in skin cancer incidence. To develop this innovative, high-demand UVA-focused sunscreen product, the applicant will combine the sunscreen molecules she studied during her doctoral degree with the state-of-the-art cosmetic delivery system technology developed by Lipotec. The development of this product at Lipotec (Barcelona) will further the European scientific and technical leadership, as well as boosting the European Sun Care market and addressing the Horizon 2020 societal challenges regarding health and wellbeing.
