Descripción del proyecto
Although the auditory nerve (AN) is one of the best studied sensory nerves, a neurophysiological correlate of its discrete anatomical organization remains to be demonstrated. This project seeks to find physiological correlates of this type of organization by recording from large populations of AN fibers in single animals, focused at a particular cochlear region and examining their responses for a quantal organization. An approach with dense sampling of individual nerves and with auditory stimuli to which neighboring inner hair cells have maximally distinctive responses will be used.
