Descripción del proyecto
We propose to explore the role of neutrinos in cosmology and astrophysics via theoretical investigations and the development of numerical and computational tools. In the first case, we shall investigate further the phenomenology related to the cosmological neutrino mass and energy density determination, exploiting the forthcoming data from the Planck ESA satellite and other cosmological surveys and probes. Particular attention will be devoted to the cosmological impact of new physics in the neutrino sector. In the second case, we shall consider the high and ultra-high energy sector of relevance for Cherenkov detectors (like the ongoing effort towards a Mediterranean km3 telescope) and Ground Arrays like the Pierre Auger Observatory. An interdisciplinary and multi-messenger approach will be the common denominator in both cases: in the former field, we shall consider the implications from (and the consequences for) laboratory experiments like Katrin or neutrinoless double beta decay searches, as well as hints of new physics that could come from the first results of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). In the latter sector, we will link the predictions for the neutrino-related observables at high energy with cosmic ray and gamma-ray data (from instruments like Auger, HESS, MAGIC and GLAST). Incursions in the intermediate energy ranges (MeV) are possible, especially related to the phenomenology of solar and core-collapse supernova neutrinos, and to the development of European plans towards a large underground facility for neutrino-related studies.
