Descripción del proyecto
IN THIS PROJECT WE AIM TO INVESTIGATE AND ASSESS NOVEL APPROACHES TO EXTRACT, INTERPRET AND INTEGRATE CLINICALLY RELEVANT INFORMATION DERIVED FROM MULTIMODAL BIOMEDICAL SIGNALS AND MEASUREMENTS --INVASIVE AND NON-INVASIVE-- IN ORDER TO IMPROVE THE KNOWLEDGE ON THE UNDERLYING PHYSIOLOGICAL MECHANISMS IN A NUMBER OF RELEVANT, HIGHLY PREVALENT DISEASES OF THE CARDIOVASCULAR, RESPIRATORY, AUTONOMIC AND NEUROLOGICAL SYSTEMS, AS WELL AS OTHER NON-PATHOLOGICAL DISORDERED CONDITIONS (SLEEPINESS, DISTRESSED EMOTIONS, MICROGRAVITY,,,),THE MAIN OBJECTIVE IS TO IMPROVE INTERPRETATION AND PHYSIOLOGICAL CHARACTERIZATION OF SUCH CONDITIONS BY THE USE OF MULTIMODAL ADVANCED SIGNAL PROCESSING AND MODELLING APPROACHES, THUS LEADING TO ENHANCED EARLIER DIAGNOSTIC OF CERTAIN PATHOLOGIES, MORE ACCURATE NON-INVASIVE RISK STRATIFICATION AND OPTIMIZED PLANNING OF SOME INTERVENTIONS, SUCH AS CARDIAC RESYNCHRONIZATION THERAPY AND ABLATION FOR ATRIAL OR VENTRICULAR ARRHYTHMIA, THE DIFFERENT APPROACHES CONSIDERED TO ADDRESS THIS GOAL SHARE A COMMON HALLMARK: THEY ARE BASED ON SIGNALS MODELS GROUNDED ON THE ESTABLISHED KNOWLEDGE OF THE PHYSIOLOGY IN EACH STUDIED CONDITION, MOST OF THE DISORDERS ADDRESSED IN THIS COORDINATED PROJECT HAVE AN EFFECT IN MORE THAN ONE OF THE BIOLOGICAL SYSTEMS, FOR INSTANCE, OBSTRUCTIVE SLEEP APNEA (OSAS) PROVOKES CHANGES IN THE RESPIRATORY AND AUTONOMIC NERVOUS SYSTEMS, AND SUBSEQUENT CARDIOVASCULAR EFFECTS, SUDDEN CARDIAC DEATH IS RELATED TO A COMBINATION OF FACTORS OF THE CARDIOVASCULAR AND AUTONOMIC NERVOUS SYSTEM, THIS SUGGESTS THAT A MULTIMODAL INTEGRATIVE APPROACH COULD IMPROVE THE PROGNOSTIC AND DIAGNOSTIC PERFORMANCE OBTAINED BY CONSIDERING ONLY ONE TYPE OF THE INVOLVED SIGNALS,WE HYPOTHESIZE THAT THE JOINT ANALYSIS OF BIOELECTRICAL, MECHANICAL, SOUNDAND BLOOD SIGNALS, DATA FROM IMAGES AND THE PERSONALIZATION OF COMPUTATIONAL MODELS WILL IMPROVE THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE PHYSIOLOGICAL PHENOMENA AND THE DIAGNOSTIC/PROGNOSTIC ABILITY, THE INTEGRATION AND FUSION OF THESE BIOMEDICAL DATA FROM MULTIPLE SOURCES, IN THE SAME SPATIO-TEMPORAL COORDINATES, WILL ENABLE THE INTEGRATION OF MULTI-PHYSICS AND MULTI-SCALE COMPUTATIONAL MODELS AND THE DESIGN OF ADVANCED TOOLS TO IMPROVE THE DETECTION AND ASSESSMENT OF PATHOLOGIES,THIS APPROACH IS APPLIED TO BE USED IN SEVERAL RELEVANT APPLICATIONS IN THE FOLLOWING FIELDS:- SLEEP-DISORDERS - ASTHMA AND CHRONIC OBSTRUCTIVE PULMONARY DISEASE- RESPIRATORY PATTERN IN CHRONIC HEART FAILURE-EPILEPSIA FOCI-SUDDEN CARDIAC DEATH, VENTRICULAR ARRHYTHMIAS AND MYOCARDIAL DAMAGE -AUTONOMIC NERVOUS SYSTEM -CARDIAC RESYNCHRONIZATION THERAPY -INVASIVE ELECTROGRAMS TO GUIDE ABLATION IN ATRIAL FIBRILLATION,FIVE MEMBERS OF THE RESEARCH TEAMS ARE CLINICIANS FROM HOSPITALS OR HEALTH INSTITUTES, THERE IS ALSO AN IMPORTANT COMMITMENT OF A HIGH NUMBER OF HOSPITALS AND COMPANIES FROM SPAIN AND FOREIGN COUNTRIES, AS ACTIVE PARTICIPANTS (EPOS), WHICH WILL ALLOW EXCELLENT DEVELOPMENT OF PROPOSED OBJECTIVES, BESIDES, IT IS ESPECIALLY RELEVANT THE INTERNATIONALITY OF THE RESEARCH TEAM, CORRESPONDING TO A SOLID COLLABORATION WITH PRESTIGIOUS GROUPS, THERE IS A TIGHT INTERACTION AMONG THE SUBPROJECTS, ESPECIALLY IN THE TOPICS OF SLEEP DISORDERS, CARDIORESPIRATORY INTERACTIONS, INDICES OF MYOCARDIAL DAMAGE, INTRACAVITARY EGM CHARACTERIZATION, AND HEART AND RESPIRATORY SOUNDS, THIS CONSTITUTES A STRONG POINT TO FAVOUR THE COORDINATION OF THE PROJECT, PROCESADO DE SEÑALES BIOMEDICAS\INTERPRETACION DE SEÑALES\SISTEMA RESPIRATORIO\SISTEMA CARDIACO\SISTEMA NERVIOSO\DIAGNOSTICO MULTIMODAL
