Descripción del proyecto
Over the last few years, a digital transformation in the industrial sector has been driven at all levels: international, national, and regional, to relaunch economic growth, reduce inequality, increase productivity and take advantage of all the opportunities offered by new technologies. In the specific case of the nuclear facilities, this transformation is a more ambitious goal than in other industrial sectors, but at the same time, it is one of the industries where benefits would be more visible, as nuclear facilities are characterized by highly complex processes, high safety requirements, many parameters to be taken into account and several stakeholders. In order to contribute to the digitalisation process of the nuclear industry, PROSA project main goal is to provide this sector with innovative tools that help to address two of the main aspects of this industry: process and safety optimisation. As a result, IBERDROLA GENERACIÓN NUCLEAR (owner and operator of nuclear power plants), INGECID (high-tech SME), and two research organizations (Universidad de Cantabria and Universidad Pública de Navarra) will join forces to develop an innovative tool for the management of process planning and risk assessment in nuclear power plants based on 3D/4D models and common data environments technology, and an innovative tool for operator assistance (on-site assistance as well as remote assistance) through virtual reality or augmented reality (VR/AR). These tools will be integrated and validated through a testing project at Cofrentes Nuclear Power Plant, that will try to optimize processes and risks within the context of the transport and installation of the dry casks in the Independent Spent Fuel Storage Installation that will be available in the near future .The PROSA project is therefore completely aligned with Topic 4 "Digital world, industry, space and defense" of the present call, as well as with the national digital plan for 2025 (objectives 3 digital competencies and 6 digitalization of companies/organizations.The PROSA project is expected to make a very positive contribution to the modernisation of the nuclear sector, as developments are currently limited to 3D or BIM applications, and there is a great lack of appropriate tools to exploit and manage these 3D/RV models and achieve the results that nuclear power plant operators really need. The development of specific tools for this type of installations, which have so many particular aspects to consider, is a necessity that responds to the sector's willingness to digitalise. The four entities of the consortium together form a multidisciplinary group with extensive experience in all key areas of the project life cycle, which will ensure the success of the project: Universidad de Cantabria brings to the project a wide range of knowledge about process analysis, and previous risk assessment tools developed for building construction, Universidad Pública de Navarra has experience in the development of innovative tools regarding simulating environments, INGECID has professionals experts both in the software engineering sector and the nuclear sector and has developed in the last years the software VIRCORE, and IBERDROLA GENERACIÓN NUCLEAR is owner and operator of several national nuclear power plants, so will be the perfect partner to assure that project keeps aligned with the specific needs of this industry, delivering great value in the national and international context.
