Descripción del proyecto
THE STUDY OF THE GROWTH AND PROPERTIES OF EPITAXIAL MONOLAYERS OF GRAPHENE IS A VERY ACTIVE FIELD OF RESEARCH, WE AIM IN THIS PROJECT TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF OUR RECENT EXPERIENCE IN THIS FIELD AND OUR LONG STANDING EXPERTISE IN SURFACE SCIENCE TO EXPLORE THE EPITAXIAL GROWTH OF GRAPHENE ON REACTIVE (RU, IR, RH) , NON REACTIVE (CU) AND MAGNETIC SINGLE CRYSTAL METAL SURFACES, SEMICONDUCTOR AND INSULATOR SURFACES, WE WILL CHARACTERIZE THE FILMS BY STRUCTURAL, SPECTROSCOPIC, VIBRATIONAL AND MAGNETIC TECHNIQUES, BOTH SPATIALLY AVERAGING (XRD; UPS, XPS; HE DIFFRACTION, DICHROISM,MOKE) AND WITH PROXIMITY PROBES (STMS), TO THIS END WE REQUIRE CERTAIN IMPROVEMENTS IN THE INSTRUMENTATION AVAILABLE, AND, ACCORDINGLY, WE PLAN TO UPGRADE THE VARIABLE TEMPERATURE STM SYSTEM THAT OPERATES NOW AT LASUAM TO OBTAIN A LOW TEMPERATURE (4 K), INTEGRATED, SPECTROSCOPIC, SPIN POLARIZED STM AND TO INCORPORATE A NEW LOW TEMPERATURE MANIPULATOR INTO THEINELASTIC HE SCATTERING SYSTEM,FROM THE SCIENTIFIC POINT OF VIEW, WE PROPOSE THE FOLLOWING SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES: I) GROWTH EPITAXIALLY GRAPHENE ON SURFACES WITH HEXAGONAL SYMMETRY AND DIFFERENT LATTICE CONSTANTS: RU(0001), IR(111), RH(111) AND CU(111) AND CHARACTERIZE IN DETAIL THE RESULTING STRUCTURES,III) DETERMINE THE INFLUENCE OF THE PERIODIC SUPERSTRUCTURE THAT ORIGINATES FROM THE LATTICE MISMATCH BETWEEN GRAPHENE AND THE SUBSTRATES ON THE ELECTRONIC STRUCTURE OF GRAPHENE, BOTH TO TRY AND VERIFY FUNDAMENTAL PREDICTIONS ON THE CHIRAL NATURE OF CARRIERS IN THESE SUPERLATTICES AND TO LOOK FOR NOVEL APPLICATIONS,III) GROWTH EPITAXIALLY GRAPHENE ON MAGNETIC SURFACES, NI(111) AND CO(111) AND EXAMINE THE GRAPHENE LAYER AT LOW TEMPERATURE WITH SPIN-POLARIZED STM,IV) DEPOSIT ELECTRON DONOR AND ACCEPTOR ORGANIC MOLECULES ON NANOSTRUCTURED GRAPHENE TO EXPLORE THEIR DOPING PROPERTIESV) DETERMINE THE DYNAMIC PROPERTIES OF EPITAXIAL NANOSTRUCTURED GRAPHENE, I,E, ITS VIBRATION SPECTRUM, DEBYE TEMPERATURE,
