Descripción del proyecto
The project 'GLObal GOvernance of LABour: an integrated approach' (GLOGOLAB) aims to investigate in a comprehensive way the emergence of different transnational regimes of regulation of work in response to the increased integration of the world economy. The project uses a MSCA Global Fellowship to leverage on my expertise on multi-level economic governance, industrial relations and labour sociology and bring it from a continental to an even more relevant global level. It will be hosted by the Department of Political and Social Sciences at Scuola Normale Superiore, under the supervision of Prof. Guglielmo Meardi, who is a leading scholar in the field of labour sociology and industrial relations, and by the ILR School at Cornell University in the US (host of outgoing phase), under the supervision of Prof. Sarosh Kuruvilla, world-renowned scholar of employment relations in global supply chains.
The action has three specific research objectives
First, to provide a comprehensive mapping of different forms of global governance of labour emerged with the increased transnationalisation of the world economy, building a database covering the last three decades (1990-2020) (RO1),
Second, to analyse and compare the impact on workers’ rights of different global labour governance structures and the different strategies adopted by social forces vis-à-vis them, through an in-depth comparative analysis of four critical cases drawn from the database (RO2).
Third, drawing from different theoretical approaches (industrial relations, multi-level governance, social movement studies), to refine an analytical approach which is able to account for the complex policy processes and outcomes taking place within global governance of labour structures (RO3).
By proposing an integrated approach to the study of global governance of labour the project will therefore make a significant empirical and theoretical contribution.
