Descripción del proyecto
The threat of terrorist groups developing Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear (CBRN) weapons led government officials worldwide to adopt far-reaching measures to defend their citizens. Records show that 50% of the CBRN attacks worldwide in the last 15 years happened since 2013. The frequency of these attacks is low when compared to gun violence, but CBRN incidents typically lead to at least 10-fold increase in the number of casualties. This led the World Economic Forum to rank large-scale terrorist attacks as the 4th most likely global risk.
In a shooting rampage attack, the source of hazard is rapidly identified and neutralized, but the same is not true for CBRN incidents, as the hazards are usually invisible, widely dispersed and extremely difficult to neutralize once airborne. The only way to improve emergency response time, avoid casualties and minimize property damage is to have these systems deployed in ‘high-risk’ locations. Airports, museums, stadiums and indoor arenas / concert halls are ‘high-risk’ locations, since their security officers tend to have low to zero military training on CBRN incident management, yet they represent the first line of emergency response in the event of such an attack. To improve threat response capacity and real-time coordination with public emergency services, these privately-managed, large-crowd venues need a CBRN management solution.
Bruhn NewTech develops tools for the military sector to address the national security scope of CBRN threats. Building upon our in-house technology and know-how, we now aim to adapt and mature our core technology to a new market – i.e. the civilian CBRN emergency response – providing onsite security officers in private venues with the necessary tools to take informed decisions, save human lives and limit property damage. The SafeZone project will deliver a wireless, plug and play detection system to define safe routes and areas, with an innovative user interface to manage acquired data.
