Descripción del proyecto The gendered effects of the current pandemic crisis – i.e. how the economic, social, and political problems prompted by the COVID-19 health crisis affect women, men, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Intersex people differently – are amongst the most visible and significant ones, yet continue to be largely underestimated in the mainstream political, policy, and academic debates. Women have and will continue to endure the social, economic and political damage generated by the crisis, due to precarious work conditions as well as unpaid care and housework. In this context, feminist movements have been capable to (re)introduce contentious claims over the deep meaning of the crisis and its consequences, raising public concern over imperative issues such as gender-based violence, reproductive rights and the centrality of care and social reproduction work as the material basis to sustain life. Against the backdrop, GRACE investigates how feminist movements address the gendered consequences of the crisis by looking at the variation in mobilization opportunities, strategies and policy outcomes in two national cases: Italy and Spain. It does so by examining feminist movements in: a) online and offline strategic choices, tactical innovation and changes in mobilization style; b) forms of (re)organization in the physical and digital space; c) discourses and knowledge production adopted to influence institutional actors and public opinion. Based on a mix-methods and cross-national comparative research design, GRACE aims to enhance the understanding of gender inequalities across contexts, crises’ consequences, and the influence of feminist movements on public policy. In doing so, GRACE will produce crucial knowledge to academics and policy makers to understand how the current crisis management entrenches the power of particular economic and social orders, enables structures and mechanisms of gender privilege and multiple inequalities.
