Descripción del proyecto
European Union Contest for Young Scientists (EUCYS) has been organised since 1989 with the aim of promoting science and research among Europe's youth and bringing together the talented young people across Europe. This contest have also brought young researchers in their very early careers the chance to meet others with similar interests and abilities, and to be guided by some of the most prominent scientists in Europe. This way EUCYS seeks to strengthen the efforts made in each participating country to attract young people to careers in science and technology. EUCYS has been organised in countries across Europe with the aim of promoting science and research in them, and bringing research and young talents into spotlight in these countries. Spain was selected to organise the 32th edition of EUCYS taking place in 2020. It is the third time that this event is organised in Spain, after being hosted for the first time in Sevilla (1992) and for the second time in Valencia (2007). Due to the circumstanced imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak, the event is going to be postponed to 2021.
Spain also has previous experience in organising the 31 editions of its National Contest for Young Scientists. The Host Organiser of EUCYS in 2020 will be the University of Salamanca, a Higher-Education academic institution with great compromise in teaching, research, and science dissemination towards the general public, and more than 800 years of history, being one of the oldest in Europe. Also, the host organiser will partner with the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, which will provide support and advise in the organisation of the event. The City Government and Junta de Castilla y León (Regional Government) will also provide support to University of Salamanca for the organization of the Contest.
EUCYS brings together excellent young researchers from 40-69 countries. During 4 days the participating projects will be interviewed by Jury members and decisions about European Union Prizes, Special Prizes and Host Organization prizes will be made.
