Descripción del proyecto
Data volumes are exploding due to IoT devices, which push cloud-based solutions and Internet bandwidth to their limits. Currently, 90% of enterprise data is sent to the cloud to be stored and processed. This number will drop to just 25% due to the limitations of cloud computing. In the future, 75% of that data will be stored and used on the device it was created on. This is called edge computing. But edge computing is still lacking the base technologies to make this shift happen.
Our solution ObjectBox enables edge computing with a data storage and sychronization solution. It is designed uniquely for compatibility across devices, from sensor to server. With ObjectBox, store and sync data on the edge: super fast, independent from the cloud, in real time, and with improved data security.
The need for edge computing and the trend towards it is evident. In the last years, all major IoT platform providers added an edge component to their IoT platforms, but those are not full solutions. By ObjectBox being the first to offer a lean, high-performance NoSQL solution, we are positioned to enable true edge computing and take an important share of the €26 billion edge computing market.
We first target Industry 4.0, smart city and smart mobility applications, where developers use ObjectBox for edge computing on IoT devices. Our ObjectBox database is accessible for free but we plan to follow a dual licensing and SaaS model to monetize the ObjectBox synchronization features.
ObjectBox Synchronization Use Case: To manage the traffic flow in a smart city effectively, all traffic lights need to know about the state of traffic and traffic lights around them to jointly effectively respond to congestion. Any change in green/red cycle length is much more effective when coordinated with other traffic lights. Therefore, the data that may lead to changes must be exchanged (synchronized) and used to make a decision that than can be distributed again.
