EL CULTIVO DE BACTERIAS FOTOTROFICAS PURPURA ELECTROACTIVAS PARA LA PRODUCCION DE BIOPLASTICOS: ESTUDIO A ESCALA PILOTO AFTER ALMOST 20 YEARS OF DEEP RESEARCH ON THE FASCINATING FIELD OF REDOX COMMUNICATION BETWEEN ELECTROCONDUCTIVE MATERIALS AND THE SO-CALLED ELECTROACTIVE BACTERIA, THE FIELD HAS BEEN ALTERED BY A NEW MODEL BASED ON THE USE OF FLU... AFTER ALMOST 20 YEARS OF DEEP RESEARCH ON THE FASCINATING FIELD OF REDOX COMMUNICATION BETWEEN ELECTROCONDUCTIVE MATERIALS AND THE SO-CALLED ELECTROACTIVE BACTERIA, THE FIELD HAS BEEN ALTERED BY A NEW MODEL BASED ON THE USE OF FLUID-LIKE ELECTRODES FOR SUPPORTING MICROBIAL GROWTH OF ELECTROACTIVE BACTERIA. THE USE OF SUCH FLUID-LIKE ELECTRODE REQUIRES THE USE OF THE SO-CALLED MICROBIAL ELECTROCHEMICAL FLUIDIZED-BED REACTORS (ME-FBR). MORE RECENTLY, THE GROWTH OF THE MOST VERSATILE KIND OF MICROORGANISM LIKE PURPLE PHOTOTROPHIC BACTERIA IN SUCH BIOREACTORS HAS BEEN REPORTED. THE MERGING OF BOTH ELEMENTS REQUIRES A NEW KIND OF BIOREACTOR THAT WILL BE EXPLORED IN THE CURRENT PROPOSAL CLEARPLASTIC. OUR PROJECT AIMS TO SCALE UP THE CONCEPT ALREADY TESTED IN METFLUID PROJECT IN ORDER TO ACCELERATE THE MARKET UPTAKE OF OUR TECHNOLOGY. SPECIFICALLY, CLEARPLASTIC AIMS TO COUPLE ELECTROFERMENTATION AND PPB METABOLISM TO PRODUCE BIOPLASTIC FROM TWO TYPE OF INDUSTRIAL WASTEWATER I) FOOD&BEVERAGE, AND II) PHARMA SECTOR. OPERATIONALLY, THE ACTIVITIES WILL BE ORGANIZED IN WORK PACKAGES THAT WILL BE CARRIED OUT BY MEMBERS OF THE RESEARCH AND WORK TEAM AT UAH AND UAB. BOTH IP WILL BE DEVOTED TO MANAGE THE PROJECT ACTIVITIES, ELABORATION OF REPORTS, AND ESTABLISH A PROPER COOPERATION ENVIRONMENT AMONG THE MEMBERS OF THE TEAM (WP 1). THE EMPHASIS OF CLEARPLASTIC DURING THE INITIAL PERIOD (WP 2) WILL BE THE DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF A ME-FBR 100-FOLD LARGER (100L) THAN PREVIOUS RESEARCH STUDIES DEVELOPED BY THE CONSORTIUM. ELECTROCONDUCTIVE MATERIAL MADE FOR THE BED REACTOR WILL BE THE MAIN GOAL OF SUBPROJECT 2. THE NEXT STEP WILL BE THE VALIDATION OF THE PILOT SCALE (WP 2) FOR PRODUCING BIOPLASTIC FROM PPB WHILE ELECTROBIOREMEDIATING INDUSTRIAL WASTEWATER. IN ORDER TO GUARANTEE THE SUSTAINABILITY OF THE FINAL PROCESS WE PLAN TO PERFORM A COMPLETE LIFE CYCLE ASSESSMENT (LCA) FOR THE WHOLE TECHNOLOGICAL SOLUTION TO EVALUATE THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ASSOCIATED WITH PRODUCTS AND/OR ACTIVITIES FROM A HOLISTIC PERSPECTIVE (WP 3). TO ACCELERATE THE MARKET UPTAKE OF THE CONCEPT BOTH A TOTEX (CAPEX + OPEX) ANALYSIS TOGETHER WITH A BUSINESS PLAN WILL BE DEVELOPED (WP 4,5) FINALLY, BASED ON A PRECISE DISSEMINATION PLAN LED BY AN EXPERT IN SCIENCE COMMUNICATION, A COMBINATION OF ONLINE AND OFFLINE DISSEMINATION ACTIVITIES WILL ENSURE THE VISIBILITY OF THE PROJECT AND ITS ACHIEVEMENTS TO SUPPORT THE MARKET UPTAKE (WP 7). ver más
