Descripción del proyecto
NanosamplinK is an innovative research project that aims at developing a minimally-invasive sampling protocol for historical manuscripts and documentary materials. It involve the use of several formulations of hydrogels and organogels which will serve as a conduit for solubilizing and absorbing the superficial layers of colored applications, preserving the integrity of the materials being analyzed. The gels will be tested on modern ink and paint reproductions, as well as on real case studies. The project focuses on striking a balance between minimizing invasive color changes on the artworks, selecting the best-performing gels for extracting specific compounds (water-soluble and non-water-soluble), and surpassing the detection limit of the intended high resolution molecular techniques. Rooted in conservation-restoration, material science, and art history, NanosamplinK benefits from expertise in heritage science, mentorship from leading experts in conservation, molecular analysis, chemistry, and nanotechnology. It is a highly interdisciplinary and international project, with a Green character, and significant implications in terms of broadening the commercial viability of these gels.
