ASTAIR - Auto-Steer Taxi at AIRport - aims at designing a support tool for fully automated ground operations supervision. Increasing the level of automation has the potential to increase airport ground traffic capacity while mitigating the impact on human workload and the environment. For example, AI will be able to initiate timely actions, such as giving clearances to vehicles on the airport aprons and taxiways according to optimal routes, and to control fleet of autonomous tugs to increase ground capacity even more. Human-centered designed tools are needed to supervise, predict, and take over the automation to take full advantage of its potential. ASTAIR aims at defining automation capable of performing complex tasks involved in the management of surface engine-off and conventional taxiing while maximizing human engagement. The key to optimize the overall performance of the collaboration between humans and AI is to adapt intelligent systems to operators’ modus operandi. This will ensure logical consistency across manual and automated control. In ASTAIR, we will propose interactive tools and adaptative AI algorithms that take advantage of operators’ expertise for controlling and engaging with the automation at diverse levels. ver más
