Descripción del proyecto
SPAIN HAS 8,000 KILOMETERS OF COASTLINE, SEA LEVEL RISE, TOGETHER WITH CHANGES IN WIND AND WAVE REGIMES, GREATER FREQUENCY AND VIRULENCE OF EXTREME CLIMATE PHENOMENA AND THE RISE IN SEA SURFACE TEMPERATURE ARE SOME OF THE EFFECTS THAT THREATEN THE SPANISH COAST, DELTAIC ZONES ARE PARTICULARLY VULNERABLE TO THE DYNAMICS OF THE ANTHROPOCENE AND TO THE CLIMATE CRISIS, IN MANY CASES, DELTAIC ZONES ARE LOCATED IN PERI-URBAN AREAS AND PROVIDE IMPORTANT RESOURCES AND SERVICES TO ADJACENT URBAN AREAS, THE PROJECT DRAWS ON A TRANSDISCIPLINARY APPROACH THAT COMBINES SEVERAL ANALYTICAL FRAMES IDENTIFIED BY THE RESEARCH TEAM THROUGH INTENSIVE ANALYSIS DEVELOPED IN THE LAST THREE YEARS, IT INCLUDES: SYSTEMISM AND COMPLEXITY THEORY, SOCIAL-ECOLOGICAL LEARNING, FOUNDATIONAL ECONOMY AND COMMUNITY ECONOMIES LITERATURE, TERRITORIAL ECODEVELOPMENT, AND THE RESEARCH PREMISE AND MAIN MESSAGES FROM THE POLICLIMA/LITOMED PROJECT,THE PRESENT PROPOSAL TACKLES TWO SPECIFIC CHALLENGES, CHALLENGE 5 CAMBIO CLIMATICO Y UTILIZACION DE RECURSOS NATURALES Y MATERIAS PRIMAS AND CHALLENGE 6 CIENCIAS SOCIALES Y HUMANIDADES Y CIENCIA CON Y PARA LA SOCIEDAD, SPECIFICALLY, IT RESPONDS TO CHALLENGE 5 BY ACCOUNTING FOR THE ACCELERATION OF GLOBAL CHANGE IMPACTS IN THE MAIN AND SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES, AS A MAIN AXIS OF THE SOCIAL-ECOLOGICAL LEARNING PROCESS TO BE ESTABLISHED IN THE LLOBREGAT DELTA, ITS EXPECTED EFFECTS (WATER SCARCITY, SEASONAL CHANGE, TEMPERATURE INCREASE, SEAL LEVEL RISE, INTENSITY OF STORMS, SALINIZATION, AMONG OTHERS) AND THE CONNECTIONS AMONG THEM WILL BE CONSIDERED IN DETAIL IN EACH CORRESPONDING SPECIFIC OBJECTIVE, ECOLEARN WILL ALSO CONTRIBUTE TO NATURAL RESOURCE USE EFFICIENCY BY PRODUCING WATER GOVERNANCE AND AGRARIAN DEVELOPMENT ALTERNATIVES, THE COLLECTIVE TRANSDISCIPLINARY APPROACH ENSURES THE CONTRIBUTION OF THE PROJECT TO CHALLENGE 6, BEING ON A RESEARCH FOUNDATION WHICH BEEN FRAMED AND IMPLEMENTED IN COOPERATION WITH SOCIETY FROM THE OUTSET, THE PROJECT WILL MAKE BOTH PRACTICAL AND THEORETICAL CONTRIBUTIONS TO THIS CHALLENGE, THE PROJECT AIMS AT TWO MAIN OBJECTIVES, ON THE ONE HAND, IT WILL CONTRIBUTE TO THE THEORY OF GLOBAL CHANGE ADAPTATION BY PROVIDING A MORE DEMOCRATIC AND CONTEXT-BASED PROPOSAL FOR ADAPTATION PLANNING ARTICULATED THROUGH A SET OF CONCEPTS THAT WILL EXPAND THE MAINSTREAM ADAPTATION PERSPECTIVE, ON THE OTHER HAND, IN EL DELTA DEL LLOBREGAT, ECOLEARN WILL GIVE CONTINUITY TO THE GLOBAL CHANGE GOVERNANCE CURRENTLY IN PRACTICE, EMPHASISING THE NEED TO COLLECTIVELY DISCUSS AND LEARN ABOUT THE MEANS, AND, MORE IMPORTANTLY, THE MAIN ENDS TO BE PURSUED IN THE CONTEXT OF ACCELERATED IMPACTS, THE DISCUSSION OF THE ENDS IS INTENDED TO REVOLVE AROUND ASSUMPTIONS, VALUES AND DOMINANT/ALTERNATIVE PARADIGMS AND POINT TO A STRATEGY IN TUNE WITH TERRITORIAL ECODEVELOPMENT THEORY, THE APPROACH WILL ALLOW TESTING THE POTENTIAL OF THE REGION TO MEET REQUIREMENTS AS A POTENTIAL REGION LAB AS DEFINED IN ITS MAIN NORMATIVE ASSUMPTIONS, IT IS EXPECTED THAT LOCAL VULNERABILITY MANAGEMENT WILL SHIFT FROM A STATIC, FRAGMENTED, TECHNICAL FIXES AND PHYSICAL MEASURES APPROACH TO A DYNAMIC, INTEGRATED, INSTITUTIONALLY CENTERED STRATEGY (COLLINS AND ISON, 2009; GLAAS ET AL,, 2010; JONSSON ET AL,, 2012), IN THIS WAY, THE AREA COULD BECOME A FRONT-RUNNER IN SPANISH ADAPTATION STRATEGY IN COASTAL AREAS FOR THE COMING DECADES AND WORK AS A MODEL FOR THE REST OF THE SPANISH COAST, CAMBIO GLOBAL\SOCIAL LEARNING\GOBERNANZA\GESTION COSTERA\SOSTENIBILIDAD
